हरिचरणरताङ्गी येन तत्रात्मधीरा
स भवतु मम भूत्यै विठ्ठलेशः सहायः ॥ १॥
In the Kuru assembly, when Draupadi’s garment became endless (miraculously extended), all the mighty kings present were unable to offer her any help. Yet, she gained courage by surrendering to the feet of Lord Hari (Krishna), who protected her. May that same Lord Vitthal, who was Draupadi’s divine support, be my guide and grant me blessings.

Due to the sins from previous births, my body has become tainted and fallen into a state of impurity. Now, in this moment, with devotion to Krishna, I seek to rise above this condition. By His grace, my fallen state and impurities can be cast off, leading me to a renewed, uplifted self. May that Lord Vitthal, who has the power to instantly elevate even the most fallen, be my support and bring me blessings.

With His lotus-petal-like eyes, He (Lord Vitthal) effortlessly guides and oversees the world, as though even the illusions created by Shiva (the Lord of beings) are under His control. Through His divine influence, all beings in the world may appear deluded, yet His devoted followers are always fulfilled and blessed. May that Lord Vitthal, who brings such blessings to His devotees, be my support and grant me success.

He (Lord Vitthal), the chief of the Yadu clan, defeated the tyrant Kansa, who had oppressed His parents, Devaki and Vasudeva, even before His birth. By His power, He relieved their suffering, and even the god of death stands humbled before Him. May that Lord Vitthal, who dispels sorrow and fear, be my support and grant me success.

He (Lord Vitthal), who destroyed the serpent Kaliya in the waters of the Yamuna, danced fearlessly upon its hoods surrounded by swarms of bees. By His divine act, He purified that water, removing its poison. May that Lord Vitthal, who has the power to purify and protect, be my support and grant me success.

He (Lord Vitthal), who destroyed the demoness Putana, disguised in a false form, sending her to the heavens, and who, with a single foot, shattered the demon disguised as a cart while lying in the house of the chief of Vraja (Nanda). May that Lord Vitthal, who possesses such divine strength and protection, be my support and grant me success.

He (Lord Vitthal), who consoled Kunti with His reassuring hand as she bowed at His feet, who destroyed the powerful and aggressive demon clans, and who lightened the burden of the entire earth. May that Lord Vitthal, who brings relief and protection to the world, be my support and grant me success.

He (Lord Vitthal), who humbled the pride of Indra, the lord of all gods, by lifting the mighty Govardhan Hill, and who subdued the torrents of rain accompanied by thunderous clouds. May that Lord Vitthal, who protects His devotees from calamities, be my support and grant me success.

One who recites this 'Vitthalashtakam' in the morning upon rising, with devotion and a pure heart, and with reverence, will attain the supreme spiritual state (liberation).
