पुराणों और अन्य धार्मिक ग्रन्थों के अनुसार मां काली की महिमा अनन्त और अतुल्य हैं।
उनका रंग काजल के समान है; इसलिए काली कहलाती है।
दुर्गा सप्तशती के अनुसार हिमालय पर देवताओं ने मां की स्तुति की थी।
उस समय मां गौरी के शरीर से कौशिकी नामक एक शक्ति बाहर निकल आई।
इसके बाद ही मां का रंग काला हुआ।
काल का नियंत्रण करने से भी मां का नाम काली है।
मां काली ही आद्या शक्ति हैं।
मां अनादि और अनन्त हैं।
प्रलय के समय जब पञ्चभूतात्मक सारी वस्तुएं और देवताओं सहित सारे प्राणी भी नष्ट हो जाते हैं, माता तब भी रहती हैं।
दस महाविद्याओं में मां काली ही सबसे प्रथम हैं।
अन्य महाविद्याएं काली की ही विभूतियां हैं।
मां का ही नीले रंगवाला स्वरूप है तारा देवी।
भक्तों को सुख-भोग और पीडाओं से मुक्ति देने में काली मां सर्वप्रथम रहती हैं।
धार्मिक कार्यों के अन्त में उसकी फल प्राप्ति के लिए दक्षिणा दी जाती है।
काली मां भी सबके कर्मों का फल देनेवाली हैं।
इसलिए उन्हें दक्षिणा काली कहते हैं।
भगवान दक्षिणामूर्ति (शंकर) ने ही उनकी सबसे पहले पूजा की थी; इस कारण से ही मां दक्षिणा काली कहलाती है।
Suta is the name of a mixed-varna caste in which the mother is a Brahmin and the father is a Kshatriya. Due to a defect at the Suti (सूतिः) where soma juice is extracted during king Prithu's yajna, varna-sankara resulted. Charioteers are also called Sutas.
Whatever is there in Mahabharata you can find them elsewhere also, but if there is something that is not there in Mahabharata, you will never be able to find it elsewhere
