Lyrics and Meaning:

Verse 1 (Shailaputree) -

वृषारूढा सैषा हिमगिरिसुता शक्तिसरिता
त्रिशूलं हस्तेऽस्याः कमलकुसुमं शङ्करगता ।
सती नाम्ना ख्याता विगतजनने शुभ्रसुभगा
सदा पायाद्देवी विजयविभवा शैलतनया ।।

vri'shaarood'haa saishaa himagirisutaa shaktisaritaa
trishoolam haste'syaah' kamalakusumam shankaragataa.
satee naamnaa khyaataa vigatajanane shubhrasubhagaa
sadaa paayaaddevee vijayavibhavaa shailatanayaa.

This verse describes the Goddess who is seated on a bull and is the daughter of the Himalayas. She is the embodiment of power, holding a trident in her hand, and a lotus which is associated with Lord Shiva. Known by the name Sati, she is renowned and is ever auspicious. May this victorious and splendid daughter of the mountain always protect us.

Verse 2 (Brahmacharini) -

तपश्चर्यासक्ता वरयति महेशं स्वमनसा
करे वामे कुण्डी भवति जपमालाऽपरकरे ।
विरागं त्यागं वा कलयति सदा दिव्यहृदये
तपोमूर्तिर्माता विकिरतु शिवं लोकनिवहे ।।

tapashcharyaasaktaa varayati mahesham svamanasaa
kare vaame kund'ee bhavati japamaalaa'parakare.
viraagam tyaagam vaa kalayati sadaa divyahri'daye
tapomoortirmaataa vikiratu shivam lokanivahe.

This verse describes the Goddess engaged in deep penance, contemplating upon Lord Shiva with her mind. She holds a water pot in her left hand, and a rosary in the other hand. Her divine heart is always focused on detachment and renunciation. May this embodiment of austerity, our Mother, bestow divine blessings upon the world.

Verse 3 (Chandraghanta) -

वराङ्गे घण्टाभा विलसति च चन्द्रोऽर्धकृतिमान्
मृगेन्द्रस्था देवी दशकरयुता हेमवदना ।
प्रचण्डैर्निर्घोषैस्तुमुलनिनदैर्यान्ति दनुजा
विदध्यात् कल्याणं निखिलभयजातं च हरतात् ।।

varaange ghant'aabhaa vilasati cha chandro'rdhakri'timaan
mri'gendrasthaa devee dashakarayutaa hemavadanaa.
prachand'airnirghoshais-
tumulaninadairyaanti danujaa
vidadhyaat kalyaanam nikhilabhayajaatam cha harataat.

This verse depicts the Goddess adorned with a radiant bell and the crescent moon on her forehead. Seated on a lion, with ten hands and a golden complexion, she strikes fear in the hearts of demons with her fierce roars and tumultuous sounds. May she grant welfare and remove all fears.

Verse 4 (Kushmanda)-

स्मितेन ब्रह्माण्डं रचयति च साम्लानविभवा
करे कोदण्डादिप्रहरणचयश्चामृतघटः ।
प्रभाऽऽदित्यस्यास्ते वपुषि निखिले कान्तिकिरणा
पुनीतां कूष्माण्डा विकिरतु विभां लोकहृदये ।।

smitena brahmaand'am rachayati cha saamlaanavibhavaa
kare kodand'aadipraharana-
chayashchaamri'taghat'ah'.
prabhaa''dityasyaaste vapushi nikhile kaantikiranaa
puneetaam kooshmaand'aa vikiratu vibhaam lokahri'daye.

In this verse, the Goddess creates the universe with her smile, radiating a soft yet powerful aura. She holds a bow and other weapons, along with a pot of nectar, in her hands. Her entire form radiates with the brilliance of the sun’s rays. May the Goddess Kuṣmāṇḍā purify and illuminate the hearts of all beings with her divine light.

Verse 5 (Katyayani) -

तपःपूता देवी मुनिकुलसमुत्पन्नविभवा
सदाऽमोघन्दात्री निखिलभयहन्त्री द्युतियुता ।
जगत्सर्वं यस्या नयननिमिषेणातपितरां
पराम्बा शक्तिः सा वितरतु कृपां भक्तनिकरे ।।

tapah'pootaa devee munikulasamutpannavibhavaa
sadaa'moghandaatree nikhilabhayahantree dyutiyutaa.
jagatsarvam yasyaa nayananimishenaatapitaraam
paraambaa shaktih' saa vitaratu kri'paam bhaktanikare.

This verse praises the Goddess who is purified through penance and is revered by the lineage of sages. She is the unfailing bestower of boons and the destroyer of all fears, glowing with divine radiance. The entire universe is blessed by just a glance from her eyes. May this supreme Mother, the embodiment of divine power, shower her grace upon her devotees.

Verse 6 (Skandamata)-

चकास्ति स्कन्दोऽङ्के तनयसुकुमारः सुखकरो
भुजे श्रीपर्णं वै ननु वरदमुद्रा विजयते ।
इयं सिंहासीना सकलसुखदाऽसौ च वरदा
मनःशुद्धं वाचि प्रसरतु तन्नाम च विमलम् ।।

chakaasti skando'nke tanayasukumaarah' sukhakaro
bhuje shreeparnam vai nanu varadamudraa vijayate.
iyam simhaaseenaa sakalasukhadaa'sau cha varadaa
manah'shuddham vaachi prasaratu tannaama cha vimalam.

This verse describes the Goddess with her son Skanda (Kartikeya) seated on her lap, who is tender and brings joy. She holds a wish-fulfilling leaf (Śrīparṇa) in her hand, and her gesture is that of granting boons. Seated on a lion, she bestows all happiness and grants boons. May her pure name spread and cleanse the mind and speech.

Verse 7 (Kalaratri)-

अभैषीत्तां दृष्ट्वा दितिसुतकुलं भीषणमहो
जघानेयं दैत्यान् सकलदनुजान् कोपमनसा ।
शिरोमाला कण्ठे वपुषि भुजगो घोरवदना
महाकाली सैषा ह्यभयवरदा पातु नियतम् ।।

abhaisheettaam dri'sht'vaa ditisutakulam bheeshanamaho
jaghaaneyam daityaan sakaladanujaan kopamanasaa.
shiromaalaa kant'he vapushi bhujago ghoravadanaa
mahaakaalee saishaa hyabhayavaradaa paatu niyatam.

In this verse, the Goddess is depicted as fierce and powerful, having slain the terrifying clan of Diti’s sons (demons) with her wrathful mind. She wears a garland of skulls around her neck, and her body is adorned with a serpent. This fearsome Mahākālī grants both fearlessness and boons. May she always protect us.

Verse 8 (Mahagauri) -

महादेवासक्ता शमितशुचिरूपा सुनयना
करे ढक्कास्वानो विभववरदा श्वेतवसना ।
बलीवर्द्दासीना दुरितशमना शुभ्रकरणा
महागौरी तुष्यान्मम नुतिनिपाठेन सततम् ।।

mahaadevaasaktaa shamitashuchiroopaa sunayanaa
kare d'hakkaasvaano vibhavavaradaa shvetavasanaa.
baleevarddaaseenaa duritashamanaa shubhrakaranaa
mahaagauree tushyaanmama nutinipaat'hena satatam.

This verse praises the Goddess Mahāgaurī, who is devoted to Mahādeva (Shiva) and whose form is pure and beautiful. She holds a drum (ḍhakkā) in her hand and grants wealth and prosperity. Dressed in white, she is seated on a bull and is the destroyer of all sins. May Mahāgaurī, who is ever auspicious, be pleased with my constant prayers.

Verse 9 (Siddhidatree) -

गदां चक्रं हस्ते नलिनकुसुमं शङ्खनिनदो
विभातीयं पद्मे तुहिनगिरिकन्या च वरदा ।
सदा चैषा दत्ते गरिमलघिमाद्यष्टविभवान्
पुनीतामात्मानं सकलकलुषं चित्तनिलयात् ।।

gadaam chakram haste nalinakusumam shankhaninado
vibhaateeyam padme tuhinagirikanyaa cha varadaa.
sadaa chaishaa datte garimalaghimaadyasht'avibhavaan
puneetaamaatmaanam sakalakalusham chittanilayaat.

This verse describes the Goddess holding a mace, discus, lotus flower, and conch shell in her hands, radiating brilliance. She is the daughter of the Himalayas (Pārvatī), who bestows boons. She grants the eight divine powers (siddhis) like Garimā and Laghimā. May she purify my mind and remove all impurities from the heart.

Verse 10(Phalashruti) -

नवदुर्गास्तुतिं चैनां यः पठेद्यत्नतो मुदा ।
आरोग्यं धनधान्यं वै प्राप्नुयाच्च विशेषतः ।।

navadurgaastutim chainaam yah' pat'hedyatnato mudaa.
aarogyam dhanadhaanyam vai praapnuyaachcha visheshatah'.

This verse is an invocation for the benefits of reciting the Navadurga Stuti. Whoever recites this Stotra with effort and joy will obtain good health, wealth, and prosperity, especially in abundance.
