Brahma's Inquiry
Once, Brahma gathered all the Devas and asked them a profound question: 'Do you want to know how to achieve perpetual happiness?'
They all responded eagerly, 'Yes.'
Brahma then led them to Bhagavan Vishnu, at Ksheera Sagara. Bhagavan Vishnu asked, 'What brings you all here?'
The Devas asked, 'Whom should we worship every day to rid ourselves of troubles and be always happy?'
Vishnu's Response
Bhagavan Vishnu reminded them, 'You know this. You have experienced it. I have told you before. Why ask again? It is the worship of Shiva. Worship Shiva daily, and your troubles will vanish.'
Vishnu continued, 'Many who abandoned Shiva's worship succumbed to maya and perished, along with their clans. Worship Shiva, even if it is simple and short. True devotees of Shiva never face grief.'
Bhagavan then instructed Vishwakarma to create Shiva Lingas for all of them. He gave these Lingas to the Devas.
Methods of Worship
There are two kinds of Shiva Pujan, as explained in Shiva Purana:
Both methods are equally effective. Choose the one that suits you. For most people, idol worship is essential.
The Role of Idol Worship
Idol worship is like using a rope to climb a wall. It provides the necessary support. In the same way, a Linga or idol helps one achieve the formless Nirguna through the support of Saguna.
Benefits of Shiva Puja
Shiva Puja is like watering the roots of a tree. When you water the roots, the branches and leaves thrive. Similarly, Shiva Puja makes all Gods and Goddesses happy.
Conclusion
Shiva represents both the ascetic and the householder, balancing extremes and teaching the integration of spirituality with worldly responsibilities. Worshiping Shiva brings positive changes and new perspectives into your life.
