Meaning and Significance:

  1. Om Tat Sat is a mantra symbolizing the Supreme divinity.
  2. It is often seen at the beginning of auspicious scriptures and also chanted at the end of pujas and rituals..
  3. The mantra consists of three words: Om, Tat, and Sat.

Explanation of Each Word:

  1. Om:
    • Om  represents the Supreme divine.
    • It signifies the complete form of the divine.
    • Om indicates both the manifest (Saguna) and unmanifest (Nirguna) forms of  divinity.
    • It encompasses all states: waking (Jagrat), dream (Swapna), deep sleep (Sushupti), and the fourth state, Tureeya.
    • It also represents Brahma (creation), Vishnu (preservation), and Shiva (dissolution).
    • Om is linked to different chakras in the body from the base (Mooladhara) to the crown (Sahasrara).
  2. Tat:
    • Tat means 'that' and refers to the unmanifest, formless divine essence.
    • It indicates the mysterious, unchanging, and pure Brahman.
  3. Sat:
    • Sat means 'truth' or 'existence' and indicates the manifest, perceptible form of the divine.
    • It represents how God is experienced and realized in the world.

Spiritual Practice:

  1. Chanting Om helps focus the mind and align energy from the base chakra to the crown chakra, leading to a state of Nirguna Brahman.
  2. Chanting Tat helps realize the unmanifest divine essence.
  3. Chanting Sat leads to the understanding that the whole universe is Brahman ('Sarvam Khalvidam Brahma').
