Kubera once felt jealous of Parvati Devi sitting very close to Shiva. He wanted such affection and closeness but did not have it. He kept staring at Devi which offended her. She cursed him to become blind in one eye. Later, she calmed down and turned that eye yellow. This was to remind him of the incident. After this, Kubera was called Ekapingala (one with a yellow eye).
