What is the story of Keelapatla Temple?
To establish that he is the most tolerant among the Trimurthis, Bhrigu Maharshi kicked at Lord Vishnu's chest. He installed seven idols of Vishnu to mitigate the sin. Among these, The idol at Keelapatla was invisible to common men. Padmavathy Devi and Venkateshwara Swamy visited Keelapatla. They told the locals about the idol at the bottom of a tank. It was recovered and installed again.
Why is Venkateshwara Swamy called Konetiraya?
In Telugu, Koneru means a tank. Since the idol of Venkateshwara Swamy at Keelapatla Temple was recovered from the bottom of a tank, Swamy is called Konetiraya here.
History of Keelapatla Temple
The idol originally installed was at the bottom of a tank. It was recovered and reinstalled under the instruction of Venkateshwara Swamy. The present temple was constructed by Pallava rulers in the 9th and 10th centuries CE. The emperors of Vijayanagara and Zamindars of Punganur have made contributions towards the temple's development.
