Definition of Itihasa

इति हैवमासिदिति यः कथ्यते स इतिहासः - This verse indicates that the term 'Itihasa' is used for accounts that are accepted as historical truths. Ramayana and Mahabharata are 'Itihasa' and not products of fiction or imagination. These epics are treated as factual retellings of events that transpired in ancient times.

Birth and Importance of Bharat

According to the Mahabharata and Kalidasa's Abhijnanashakuntalam, Bharat was born as the son of King Dushyanta and Shakuntala. One day, King Dushyanta met Shakuntala at Sage Kanva's hermitage and married her. Later, Shakuntala gave birth to a son, who was named Bharat.Bharat holds a significant place in Indian culture. The country India (Bharat) is named after him. Bharat is known for his strength, courage, and just rule. He became a great king, and under his reign, India experienced growth and prosperity.
